But, apart from that - I had liked this series up til now. It wasn't brilliant in any way, just a nice relaxing read. I know there's often a dud in any series though, and I think this book is it. The plot was ludicrous and would have Agatha Christie rolling with laughter as Carlisle tries to put in twists and turns and a shock ending. It didn't work. The author made too many leaps and threw in a deus ex machina for the end.
The characters were often inconsistent - Brooklyn's boyfriend is a security specialist and ex-MI6. He's over-protective - always, except for one point in this story where a violent and abusive woman, Minka, pushes her way into Brooklyn's home. Minka has attacked Brooklyn many times before and attempted to sabotage her career by putting a scalpel through her hand. But does the alpha-male protect Brooklyn? No. He just stands to the side as Brooklyn is harassed, even after she threatens to call the police. Truly ridiculous. Come on Carlisle, bring back the characters real personalities!
It wasn't the only problem with the plot, but to tell you all of them would give it all away. SO was the book worth reading? No. Would I read the next one? Well, yes, but that's because I've already bought it. Hopefully it's better than this one.
